Hi. My name is Susan Stucki, founder and creator of the Celebration of Life movement. Allow me to share my story.

Just 8 years ago in the prime of my life, I was diagnosed with cancer. Impossible, I thought. I'm way too young. Who will raise my children who were still at home? Who will care for, teach and love my grandchildren? Who will take care of my husband? I have so much energy and life left. How could this be happening to me?

During the next few 'dark' months of surgeries, and recovery, I had plenty of time to reflect on my life. Although my life had been relatively full and I had achieved many things there was one thing that kept coming back to me. For 45 years I had been alive, but had I really lived? Had I really taken time to fully appreciate my life or had I taken some days for granted?

It's amazing the impact such an announcement might have on you. Long before it was written and became a popular song I learned to relate to the words of the popular country song by Tim McGraw.

“. . . When you get that kinda news? Man whatcha do? He said.......
I went sky divin'
I went Rocky Mountain climbin'
I went 2 point 7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denyin'
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To Live Like You Were Dying”
“Live Like You Were Dying”

I had lived through a miracle! I realized I had been given a very special gift – the gift of life. Each one of us have been blessed with this gift, but do we realize what we have until we are faced with losing it or having our lives shaken up? I also realized that I was not alone. Many, many people face just such news everyday. Others, although they may have not had to face a shocking medical diagnosis, have life altering experiences that have had a profound effect on their lives.

Lying in that hospital bed I promised that if God allowed me to live I would make every day the most joyous, memorable day that I possibly could. No more would I take any day for granted. Every day I was allowed to take a breath would give me cause to celebrate.

With this new resolve on my lips, I kept my promise and found a way to fully appreciate every day (see the free Celebration Gratitude Journal download under the Free Downloads link. On the one year anniversary of my original surgery, I decided I would have a celebration. A Celebration of Life. This was never intended to be a celebration of my own life, but rather a celebration of life itself, reminding myself and others to stop long enough to appreciate this precious gift. I started by inviting others to share in a day of leisure activities, music, food and atmosphere. I invited a few close friends at first, many who had helped me during my convalescence and recovery period and others who meant something to me.

It was a small celebration at first but proved to be so much fun and was so appreciated by those who attended that I decided to repeat it every year.

At first this Celebration was just something that was done on a neighborhood level but quickly grew to a much larger proportion until now it has come time to share what I have discovered with the world. That's right, the world. No matter where you are, what kind of news you have just received or what tragedies may have befallen you, there is always time for joy and celebration. You will be amazed at the difference one day of gratitude, celebrating and pampering yourself can make. It truly is life changing no matter your circumstances.

I really didn't feel like I fit into this neighborhood although I have lived here a year. Joining in this Celebration of Life Day has made me feel welcomed and part of a group.

Sometimes we are so busy existing in life that we forget to live.

Will you please join me? I have created a Celebration Day. This is a day to "take time to smell the roses" so to speak; a day to give thanks to your Creator for allowing you to be able to live on this earth and experience every part of it – good and bad.

There were many lessons during those months of recovery. One that stood out the most is that hard or bad things happen to everyone – the experiences are all different but they are still hard, difficult and troubling. The message I remember from my own personal experience is that there is always hope. No matter how bleak and black the day may appear, there is always hope -- always! Sometimes, however, in that black tunnel it really does seem hopeless. Sometimes in the search for living we get so caught up in the moment we miss the very thing that life is all about – living.

The Celebration of Life Day has been created to assist all of us in the important search we have for living.

A lot of press has been given lately to "The Secret" and the laws of attraction, prosperity, gratitude, giving and receiving. The truth of the matter is these principles really are not a secret. In fact, these principles have been in motion for many, many years. Many of us have been so caught up in life that we have missed living to its fullest potential.

This is a day and age of enlightenment; a time when there is more truth and technological advances available to us than has been available at any other time in the history of civilization. Is it any wonder then that we are starting to truly become enlightened as to how to live? It makes sense, doesn't it?

I realize that everyone has their own story; everyone has their own special "celebration" day. Everyone has their own way of expressing their own celebration. Sometimes, however, we need a little outline or guide to help us express ourselves. Sometimes we need an excuse to block out time for ourselves.

I have created this website to provide valuable tools and assistance as you begin your new life pattern and join in a Celebration of Life. Many of the downloads are free and have been created from years of practice and experience.

I realize that each celebration is unique and that each one will be different. That's all right. The important thing is not that all of us are doing the same thing; the important thing is that everyone is taking time to celebrate and give thanks.

Some celebrations may involve entire neighborhoods or communities while others may be celebrated in the quiet of your own home. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate. The important thing is to take time to do it. You deserve to have your own day. Please let us know your day and why it is special to you so that we may honor you on that day as well.

The important thing is to take action now and schedule a time. If you can't take a whole day, choose part of a day, an hour or two, but choose. You've heard it said, if we fail to plan, we plan to fail. So it is with our Celebration. If we fail to choose a day, we will never begin.

I am late and wish I hadn't missed the earlier part of the Celebration of Life Day. But I wouldn't miss it; not after the great time I had last year.

This website is dedicated to providing tools, motivation, encouragement, and stories. I would love to hear how your own Celebration goes. Also as a member of the "Celebrate With Joy" group we will notify you of upcoming events and tools. We will be continually adding new things to the website for you to use in your Celebrations so you will want to check here often. We will also notify you as we add new things to the site for you to use. Please share this site with all of your friends and loved ones. They, too, will want to create their Celebration of Life Day.

I hope you will not 'postpone joy' but will choose to improve your life by joining with me and celebrating your life. You are unique. There will never be another you. You are you and that is something worth celebrating.

I told my husband I really didn't have time to come to your Celebration of Life Day today and he encouraged me to take the time to come. I have so much to do at home and work but now I don't want to leave!

Here is to your celebration, happiness, joy, abundance and prosperity.
